Boise State Broncos face uphill battle in season opener against #10 Washington

Boise State is set to take on #10 Washington, kickoff at 1:30 p.m. MST on ABC.

BSU's season opener is set to be one of the biggest challenges the Broncos are likely to face all season, and could have last ramifications win or lose. With odds literally stacked against them, ESPN predicting a 25.1% chance of victory for the Broncos, and the Huskey's quarterback Michael Penix Jr. speculated to be a Heisman Trophy contender.

The Broncos however are no slouch when faced with big name or highly ranked opponents, including Washington with a 2-3 record all time against the Huskies. The Broncos could tie the head to head record with a win. In fact the Broncos have faired rather well against PAC-12 teams, 17-18 against all opponents, including winning all three bouts with Oregon, winning the only meeting against Arizona, and holding the upper hand against Utah with a 5 and 2 record.

A concern for BSU headed into the matchup is the stadium. Washington's stadium holds 70,000 people, and is ranked as one of the loudest in the country. Combating travel, opening day jitters, and an incredibly loud stadium, are just a few of the hurdles Boise will have to face, but Coach Andy Avalos sees things a little differently;

"Having the opportunity to go on the road in the opening week and play the No. 10 team in the nation, you don't always get that, and so it calls for a great deal of preparation obviously, and focus and discipline and really at the end of the day that's what it comes down to," Avalos said.

Tune in to see Boise State's season opener against Washington at 1:30 p.m. MST on ABC.
